Community Spotlight: Meet Nathan
We sat down for a conversation with Nathan Nakamura, video editor for Poplar Pulmonary Wellness. We are proud to introduce our community to the person behind our videos as this month’s Community Spotlight takes us behind the scenes.
Poplar: Tell us a little bit about yourself, Nathan.
Nathan: I'm a Seattle based video editor, filmmaker, and motion graphics designer. I've been editing professionally for around 3-4 years and I work with a variety of clients and brands to help create meaningful content that best represents their individual messages.
Poplar: What is your speciality and how did you become interested in video as a career?
Nathan: I'm a video editor specializing in short form and social content. My video editing journey started back in 2020 during COVID which led me to pursue a film and media studies major in university. That education eventually led me into editing and motion graphics professionally.
Poplar: What do you enjoy most?
Nathan: What I enjoy most about my profession is being able to work with different teams and continue improving my skillset as a video editor. Even with a few years of experience under my belt, I feel like there's always room to grow. I love that I get to do that while working on meaningful projects.
Poplar: Can you tell us about some of the projects you’ve worked on?
Nathan: I have a lot of good memories from working professionally as a video editor. From 2024 to 2025, I worked as an Associate Video Editing Manager at a trading card game startup. There, I helped manage social media channels and create brand-focused content. In March of 2025, while still there, I had a stretch where I worked 12-15 hour days for a week straight. That week ended with a 35-hour shift! As tiring and stressful as that week was, it was honestly one of my most memorable moments as an editor.
Poplar: You must find the work you do rewarding to get through a week like that! What is one of the most rewarding parts of your work?
Nathan: Being able to reach people living with chronic lung conditions and help improve their quality of life through the services we provide.
Poplar: In a usual week, what do you find challenging about your profession?
Nathan: I think the most challenging part of being an editor is trying to perfect everything. I get very invested in most of the projects I work on and it can be hard to balance that drive for perfection with tight deadlines.
Poplar: As a video editor, what draws you to projects that focus on health advocacy and patient communities?
Nathan: Media consumption has become a huge part of people's day-to-day lives. I think it's powerful to be able to reach people through social media, especially those living with chronic lung conditions.
