Let’s Move Challenge 2026: Small Steps, Big Benefits for Lung Health

Living with a chronic lung condition can make physical activity feel challenging at times, but regular movement is one of the most important things you can do to support your lung health and overall well-being.

Movement helps your lungs in several ways. It can help loosen and clear mucus from your airways, improve your breathing efficiency, and increase your endurance over time. With consistency, regular physical activity can help you feel stronger, more energetic, and more confident in your daily activities.

For people living with COPD, exercise can improve endurance, reduce shortness of breath, and enhance quality of life. Those with bronchiectasis may find that movement helps to loosen mucous, making it easier to keep the airways clear. People with asthma often benefit from improved cardiovascular fitness, which can increase exercise tolerance and confidence in being active. Individuals living with pulmonary fibrosis and other chronic lung conditions may also experience improvements in strength, stamina, and overall well-being through regular physical activity.

Did You Know? Research shows that regular physical activity can reduce symptoms of breathlessness and improve quality of life for people living with chronic lung diseases. Even a few minutes of movement at a time can contribute to better health when done consistently.

The benefits extend beyond your lungs. Exercise and movement have been shown to help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, improve mood, and support better sleep. The good news is that to experience these benefits, a little bit goes a long way! Even small amounts of movement each day can make a meaningful difference when done consistently.

That's why we're excited to bring back our annual Let’s Move Challenge, inspired by the Let's Move Canada Challenge. This fun, supportive, 7-day challenge is designed to encourage everyone to move more in creative and achievable ways.

The Poplar Let’s Move Challenge runs from Monday, June 15 to Sunday, June 21.

Each day, we'll share a new movement prompt to inspire you to get active in a way that works for your abilities, interests, and energy level. Whether it's a short walk, stretching, dancing in your kitchen, gardening, or another form of movement you enjoy, every step counts.

Follow along on your favourite social media channel or visit the Poplar Community each day for movement ideas, encouragement, and inspiration. We encourage you to follow us on Facebook or join the Poplar Community.

We also encourage you to share your experiences throughout the week. Tell us what activities you tried, celebrate your successes, and support fellow community members by leaving a comment. Together, we can motivate one another to move more, feel better, and build healthy habits that last beyond the challenge.

We can't wait to move with you!

If you are looking for support with movement and exercise, consider joining a Pulmonary Rehabilitation program that offers group support and ongoing maintenance classes.
